General Milley opens discussions between leaders.
The U.S.-Taliban agreement was cemented last February to begin to put an end to the conflict raging since 2001. According to the agreement, the Taliban will renounce al-Qaida and commit to peace in exchange for total U.S. withdrawal by May 2021. General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sat down with Taliban leaders in Qatar this week to move those efforts forward.
Both parties hope that the agreement will prepare a political dynamic enabling peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government once the U.S. military pulls out of the area. Milley has also met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, but has not reported a breakthrough in those discussions thus far.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For General Mark Milley as he facilitates future peace talks.
- That the Defense Department would strive for peace in that war-torn area.
- That the Afghan government and the Taliban would be receptive to future peace talks.
